Jeon Jin-Woo ‘gives West Brom final transfer answer’ as bid submitted

West Brom are pushing to sign South Korean star Jeon Jin-Woo, but could be set to fail in their short-winded pursuit.

Ryan Mason was recommended the winger by Son Heung-Min, as his exploits in South Korea have now attracted a lot of interest.

West Brom need more attacking firepower with just one forward coming in so far, and winger Jin-Woo could have been a strong addition.

The Baggies made an offer for the 25-year-old, who plays for Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, but a transfer now no longer appears to be possible.

West Brom offer for Jin-Woo rejected

West Brom’s offer of around £1million has been rejected by the South Korean side, but this is not simply a case of offering more money for the winger.

South Korean outlet STN Sports (July 15) has reported that Jin-Woo’s club do not want to sell, for the “significant” reason that they have just a week remaining in their transfer window with no replacement in sight.

Jin-Woo was pivotal in leading Jeonbuk to recent league and cup success, and it is claimed that his journey will continue despite the interest from West Brom and clubs in Belgium.

The winger can play on both sides and scored 12 league goals last season, but the Baggies will have to look for alternative targets.

West Brom need more goals in wide areas

West Brom’s interest in Jin-Woo was clearly motivated by the fact that they need more goals from all areas in the final third, and alternative targets must now be pursued.

Mikey Johnston and Tom Fellows have both been linked with exits, and regardless of their futures, there is a lack of goal threat in the final third.

Josh Maja was the only player to hit double figures for goals last season, with his 12 strikes not enough to earn West Brom a play-off spot.

No other player even managed more than seven goals in the Championship, and with Grady Diangana among those who have since left, it is clear that several attackers are necessary this summer.

Jin-Woo may remain a target for future windows, but a move this summer now seems to be off the cards, much to Mason’s frustration.
