Ex-West Brom midfielder spotted as trialist in Aston Villa friendly

West Brom have had many players who have gone on to better things after leaving the Baggies.

Stars such as Chris Wood have gone on to dominate the Premier League, with the striker being a key player for Nottingham Forest last season.

Other players, such as Romelu Lukaku, have gone on to win numerous trophies after his loan spell at The Hawthorns.

However, few have found success after leaving West Brom in recent years.

Romaine Sawyers spotted as Walsall trialist

It has been three years since West Brom parted with Romaine Sawyers

The 33-year-old was part of the Baggies team that won promotion to the Premier League in the 2020/21 campaign.

However, after a poor season in the top-flight, he was loaned out to Cardiff City before being released.

Now, after additional spells at AFC Wimbledon and Bristol Rovers, the attacking midfielder is a free agent once again.

However, he could be set for a romantic return to his former club Walsall after journalist Steve Hermon spotted the 33-year-old on trial for the Saddlers against Aston Villa.

He said via X (16 July), that the home supporters chanted the Sawyers’ name as he warmed up before he was then brought onto the pitch.

Ryan Mason should look into the free agent market

While Sawyers is clearly not good enough to play for West Brom anymore, there are still plenty of great players available who are free agents.

This should be a market that Ryan Mason looks into, with any incomings allowing the Baggies to save millions on what would have gone on transfer fees.

Even if the additions are only brought in as back-ups, it would allow West Brom to add more quality to their depth.

Promotion to the Premier League is no doubt a tough task, and Mason should be looking into multiple avenues to gain an advantage over his rivals.
