Gus Poyet steps in as Jin-woo makes final West Brom transfer call

West Brom have been linked with a surprise move for South Korean talent Jeon Jin-Woo.

England has become a hotspot for Korean youngsters in recent years, but a potential move for the Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors star came out of the blue for Baggies fans.

Jin-Woo would add versatility to Ryan Mason’s attack, after the Albion boss already added Aune Heggebo to his forward line.

The links have prompted current Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors manager Gus Poyet to have his say on the forward’s future, which appears to have worked.

West Brom have £1.3million bid for Jin-Woo turned down

West Brom have struggled to lure Jin-Woo away from Jeonbuk so far this summer.

According to reports from Football Asian (17 July), the Japanese side has turned down offers worth up to £1.3million from Belgian club Genk and West Brom.

Both bids were reportedly met with firm interest from the attacker, who has dreams of playing in Europe.

However, after talks with the club’s hierarchy and manager Poyet, Jin-Woo has decided to stay in South Korea for now.

The winger is currently the K League’s top goalscorer, with 12 goals in 20 appearances.

Jeonbuk are currently in a title race, and with the Korean transfer window shutting on 24 July, they are reluctant to lose one of their best players without having the opportunity to replace him.

West Brom can be hopeful of completing Jin-Woo deal

Although Jin-Woo doesn’t look to be signing for West Brom this summer, Mason can hold out hope of signing the attacker in future transfer windows.

The South Korean has already expressed desires to play in Europe, and given the Championship’s recent record of developing players from Asia, The Hawthorns is an attractive proposition.

After losing Grady Diangana at the end of last season, and with Tom Fellows’ future still uncertain, the attack is still a concern for the Baggies going into next season.

Therefore, Mason must find an alternative to Jin-Woo.
