‘Nestor to capitalise on Bologna links at West Brom’ as £1m deal edges closer

West Brom could soon be set to confirm their third signing of the summer.

The Baggies are entering a new era under Ryan Mason with the hope of improving after missing out on the play-offs last campaign.

That has seen the ex-Tottenham coach be backed so far in the window with the additions of Nat Phillips and Aune Heggebo in B71.

Now, Albion sporting director Andrew Nestor could utilise his previous relationships at Serie A side Bologna to help force a deal for another new signing.

Nestor to help West Brom land George Campbell

Having capitulated under Tony Mowbray last campaign, there is a definite need for reinforcements throughout the side at The Hawthorns.

This is especially the case in the backline, with the Baggies having lost Mason Holgate at the end of his loan deal from Everton. In addition, the Jamaica international looks set to be joined by skipper Kyle Bartley out of the exit doors in the Midlands before the end of the summer.

As a result, a centre back signing looks like a requirement, with Mason seemingly set to land a top target in the coming weeks.

According to Joey Chapman’s report via the Woodman Corner Substack (17 July), West Brom are close to the £1million signing of George Campbell from Montréal.

The 24-year-old looks set to sign from the MLS side owned by Joey Saputo, who is also the chairman of Serie A outfit Bologna.

Nestor is said to have particularly close ties to the Canadian businessman, alongside those associated with Bilkul Football at The Hawthorns.

Campbell set to sign for West Brom from Montréal

There doesn’t appear to be any messing around under the new regime in B71, with deals getting done far in advance of the new Championship season.

Campbell looks set to link up with the Baggies alongside Phillips, something which could help form a terrific centre-back partnership.

This duo, alongside Torbjorn Heggem, could prove to be one of the better defensive lines in the entire division if a relationship is built quickly.

It is fair to say that the Albion will have Nestor and his relationship with Saputo to thank if a deal is to go through for Campbell this summer.
