West Brom ‘hold advantage’ in Seydou Fini race as £3m transfer update drops

West Brom are aiming to recruit in attacking areas, and have now been linked with Seydou Fini.

The Baggies are keen on adding more wingers to their squad, with Grady Diangana among those who departed this summer.

Ryan Mason was keen on South Korean star Jeon Jin-Woo, but it now appears a deal will not materialise this summer.

West Brom are light in attacking areas, but have now set their sights on Genoa sensation Fini, and could back themselves to win the race for him.

West Brom to battle Watford for Fini

Fini is a rising star in Serie A at Genoa and is now the subject of interest from several Championship sides.

Ben Jacobs has reported (17 July) that Watford, West Brom and Coventry are keen on the 19-year-old, who could be available for £3-5million this summer.

The teenager can play on both wings and adds both speed and goal threat, with a clinical record at youth level for Genoa.

Fini spent last season on loan at Dutch side Excelsior, recording nine goal and assist contributions in 38 appearances, and could be ready to make an immediate impact in the Championship.

Andrew Nestor gives West Brom an advantage in the Fini race

West Brom’s interest in Fini may stem from sporting director Andrew Nestor, given his experience in Serie A with Bologna.

Given Fini’s record at youth level, which saw him provide 32 goals and assists in 28 under-17 matches for Genoa, he would have been on the radar of a lot of Serie A sides.

Nestor’s connection to Italian football could hand West Brom an advantage over Coventry in the race, but Watford could also play on their connection to Udinese through owner Gino Pozzo.

Fini would be an exciting addition at a potentially low cost for West Brom, and Mason will hope that he is one of several attacking players to arrive at the Hawthorns this summer.

Aune Heggebo is the only attacking signing so far, and at least one winger will be necessary as West Brom push for promotion next season.
