Daryl Dike reacts as USMNT star George Campbell officially joins West Brom

George Campbell has been announced as West Brom’s latest signing from CF Montreal.

The American defender is the second defensive arrival at The Hawthorns so far under new manager Ryan Mason.

Campbell, who has been capped by the USMNT, joins alongside Nat Phillips from Liverpool, with the two seemingly competing to partner Torbjorn Heggem in the Albion backline.

Campbell is now the second American to be a part of the Baggies’ first-team squad, alongside Daryl Dike, who seemingly approves the arrival of his countryman.

Dike reacts to Campbell joining West Brom

The signing of Campbell has seemingly thrown Kyle Bartley’s future up in the air, with the 34-year-old seemingly not being a part of Mason’s plans for next season.

Campbell’s arrival in the Black Country was officially confirmed on West Brom’s Instagram account (19 July).

Dike was quick to share his thoughts on the 24-year-old defender joining Albion, as he liked the post.

With the MLS season currently ongoing, Campbell should already be up to speed and will hopefully be available to contribute right from the very first game of the season against Blackburn.

What role both players will play in Mason’s squad next season remains to be seen as West Brom look to end their Premier League hiatus.

Both Americans face significant competition to start if everyone is fully fit, with Dike likely being behind new signing Aune Heggebo in the pecking order, given the Norwegian’s hefty price tag.

Albion cannot afford to miss out on other transfer targets

Whilst the additions of Phillips, Campbell, and Heggebo are all positive, West Brom need to continue to strengthen over the summer.

The Baggies have been linked with a move for K League ace Jean Jin-Woo, but finalising a move for the winger now seems unlikely after their bid has been rejected.

After already missing out on a deal for David Brooks, the Albion are desperate for reinforcements in the wide areas, with Mikey Johnston and Tom Fellows having uncertain futures in the Black Country.

New targets must now be identified and brought in quickly, so they can gel with the rest of Mason’s squad in pre-season.
