‘Ryan Mason to use Tottenham links at West Brom for Furlong successor transfer’

West Brom could potentially sign a successor to Darnell Furlong at The Hawthorns this transfer window.

The English defender featured in the Baggies’ 2-1 loss to Blackpool in a friendly at Bloomfield Road on Saturday (19 July), and the 29-year-old arguably needs more support on the right side of defence.

Ryan Mason could potentially use his connections at Tottenham to strengthen the Albion this summer, and Mauricio Pochettino may be another avenue for him to explore.

Pochettino may help Mason complete Freeman transfer at West Brom

Mason may be able to use his links with Mauricio Pochettino to sign Orlando City right-back Alex Freeman at West Brom this summer.

The former Spurs midfielder played under the now United States head coach during their time together in North London.

Since taking over the American national team, the Argentine manager has relied on the 20-year-old Orlando defender in his starting lineup.

The young right-back played the full 90 minutes for the USA as they lost the Gold Cup final to Mexico on 7 June.

West Brom have bolstered their backline this summer by signing the likes of Nat Phillips from Liverpool and the recent addition of George Campbell.

The Baggies arguably could still bolster their squad further before the end of August, and a new right-back should be on the agenda.

Furlong played a majority of games in the Championship last season, and the Albion lacked a natural replacement for him in the team.

West Brom need Freeman-like transfer this summer

West Brom could potentially deploy Campbell on the right side of defence if needed, but the 24-year-old is a natural centre-back.

If Shilen Patel has any ambitions of building a competitive team at The Hawthorns, more signings should be made in the coming weeks.

Freeman may be able to keep Furlong on his toes next season, and the 20-year-old can undoubtedly be the future right-back at the Albion.

Mason should think about getting a word in with Pochettino and pushing the Orlando youngster towards the West Midlands outfit this summer.
