West Brom ‘ready to sign McConnell’ after Liverpool developments
West Brom want to further strengthen their squad in the summer transfer window, and loan deals are now on the table.
The Baggies have so far signed three players, Nat Phillips, Aune Heggebo and George Campbell.
While gaps at centre-back and upfront have been addressed, West Brom need to add quality in midfield, and there are plenty of issues which need resolving.
John Swift’s departure has left the Baggies light in central midfield, but a Liverpool starlet could now replace him.

West Brom keen on James McConnell
Phillips joined from Liverpool earlier in the window, and one of his old teammates could now follow him to the Championship as West Brom are keen on James McConnell.
The midfielder has impressed in the Liverpool youth ranks and will now be loaned out from the Premier League winners to gain first-team experience.

McConnell was left out of Liverpool’s travelling squad for their pre-season tour in Asia with an injury, and the expectation is that he will go on loan.
Lewis Steele has now reported via X (21 July) that West Brom, as well as Ipswich Town, Derby County and several German clubs, are all keen on taking the 20-year-old for the season.
McConnell could add a versatile threat to the West Brom midfield
McConnell has impressed so highly in the Liverpool academy that he has already made 13 senior appearances, and they clearly value him as a talent with a lot of potential.
The youngster played in a variety of roles within the Liverpool academy, excelling both as a defensive midfielder as well as a more advanced option in the final third.
McConnell’s stint in the under-18s saw him push forward more, as he scored 10 goals in 47 games from central midfield.
West Brom could benefit from his creativity and intelligence, and he could become a very useful player for Ryan Mason if they can beat the other interested clubs to his signature.
The deal to sign Phillips could give West Brom an advantage, with the transfer proceeding smoothly, and having a senior figure with plenty of experience alongside the youngster could be of appeal to Liverpool when selecting McConnell’s loan destination.
