West Brom set for Cole stand-off amid new approach claim

Devante Cole has been heavily linked with a move away from West Brom after an underwhelming time at The Hawthorns.

Albion signed Cole after his release at Barnsley last year, but he struggled for gametime last season despite the Baggies constantly chopping and changing their forward line.

Cole has struggled even more during Ryan Mason’s first preseason in charge as the Jamaican centre-forward missed a chance towards the end of the friendly against Club Brugge, leading to criticism.

The Baggies look set to cut ties with the forward in the coming weeks, though recent reports have put the brakes on a potential move.

West Brom have had no approaches for Cole

When former West Brom boss Carlos Corberan signed Cole, he was brought in as a backup striker.

Supporters have been left questioning the signing, with the former Barnsley forward now stuck on the books with The Albion for another season.

Mason has been looking to offload the inconsistent striker, but according to The Express and Star (24 July), no approaches have been made for Cole, despite conflicting reports.

Cole had a torrid Championship campaign

League One clubs have reportedly been looking at signing Cole from West Brom this summer but it doesn’t seem like he will be departing The Hawthorns anytime soon.

The 30-year-old did rack up an impressive record in the third division, contributing to 21 goals in the 2023/24 campaign for Barnsley.

However, things haven’t worked out since for the Jamaican since then.

And it may now be that Mason has to potentially leave Cole out of his side in order to force him away, assuming there is no serious first-team plans for him this coming campaign.

West Brom still need more reinforcements up front

Cole should think about leaving West Brom in the coming weeks, as it’s clear that he doesn’t have a future.

Whether he departs or not, the Baggies still need more attacking reinforcements.

The signing of Auge Heggebo will be useful for Mason‘s side, but they still need to add more depth should they hope to avoid another disastrous campaign.

The Baggies still have Dike and Josh Maja up front, but that clearly wasn’t enough last season due to their fitness issues.
