Ramos to West Brom – How does Cadiz star compare to Heggebo?

West Brom have been linked with a move for Cadiz forward Chris Ramos.

Ryan Mason is keen to add attacking firepower to his squad, but the only forward to arrive so far is Aune Heggebo.

With West Brom needing options out wide, a move for another centre-forward would be somewhat surprising, but the Baggies are now reportedly pushing for Ramos.

Heggebo has joined West Brom from Norwegian side Brann and is expected to be the first-choice striker, and West Brom News have now compared him to Ramos.

Heggebo and Ramos’ physical traits compared

Heggebo and Ramos are both target-man style centre-forwards, who will bring a lot of height and physical threat to the Championship.

The Norwegian stands at 1.85 metres tall, but this is below Ramos, who towers above at 1.90m, but Heggebo brings more brawn with wider shoulders and a stockier frame.

Both strikers are capable in front of goal, but Ramos is not as clinical as Heggebo in this regard.

Ramos scored 10 goals in 37 La Liga 2 matches last season, but just 24 of his appearances came from the start, with a rate of 0.4 goals per 90 minutes.

Heggebo ranks slightly above him in this regard, with seven goals in 13 Eliteserien matches in his final campaign.

This produced a scoring rate of 0.54 goals per 90 minutes, but given the smaller sample size, it is unclear how this would translate to a full season.

With Cadiz finishing 13th in La Liga 2, Ramos was in a tougher league and a worse-performing team than Heggebo, whose Brann side are currently fifth in the Norwegian top flight.

Ramos has experience over Heggebo

While Ramos spent last season in the Spanish second division, he also previously appeared in La Liga before Cadiz were relegated, and this top-level experience could prove useful.

Ramos scored six times in 53 La Liga appearances, so he was not exactly clinical, but he did test himself against UEFA Champions League-level teams, with goals against Sevilla, Real Betis and Villarreal in his final season in La Liga.

Heggebo, meanwhile, has to adjust to English football, and at 24, is four years younger than Ramos. He has proven that he can score, though, with 51 total goals in 146 games for Brann.

Both strikers could complement each other well, but given Heggebo’s presence at the club, a move for Ramos should not come at the expense of recruiting in other positions.
