West Brom can capitalise on latest Sheffield Wednesday heartbreak as notice served

West Brom’s Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday are going through a torrid time.

The Owls have had several players terminate their contracts after failing to pay them on time on multiple occasions.

They’ve lost their manager Danny Rohl, and it’s rumoured that their players could boycott a scheduled friendly match against Burnley this weekend.

It’s sad to see any professional club suffer from such poor financial mismanagement, but the Baggies could benefit from the latest developments at Hillsborough.

West Brom should pounce as Max Lowe hands in his notice to Sheffield Wednesday

Max Lowe has become the latest Sheffield Wednesday player to signal his intent to terminate his Sheffield Wednesday contract.

The defender has handed in the two-week notice required to Sheffield Wednesday before he terminates his deal, as per FIFA regulations.

Lowe primarily plays as a left-back, although he excelled on the left of a back three for the Owls. This is an area where the Baggies squad could use some strengthening.

The 27-year-old has tons of experience in the Championship, having previously played for Sheffield United, Nottingham Forest and Derby.

The sentiment toward the Patel family is much better. New manager Ryan Mason has been backed in the transfer market.

So far, the Baggies have signed:

Other stars look set to arrive at The Hawthorns shortly too.

With a couple more signings to aid squad depth, Mason looks well prepared to battle for promotion this season.

West Brom welcome Sheffield Wednesday to The Hawthorns on 1 November. They visit Hillsborough for their final league game of the season on 2 May 2026.
