Molumby spot on as he admits what is simply not acceptable for West Brom
Jayson Molumby has made his thoughts clear now that West Brom’s pre-season campaign has come to an end.
The Baggies registered their first and only win in pre-season with a 3-2 victory over Rayo Vallecano on Saturday (2 August).
Molumby, 25, scored a rare goal in the victory over the Spanish side, which subsequently secured new boss Ryan Mason his first victory in charge.
The Irishman has been at The Hawthorns since moving from Brighton on an initial loan in 2021, before moving permanently in 2022.

Molumby found Lincoln performance ‘unacceptable’
Molumby has come out with a statement of intent after his side’s poor performance at Lincoln City last week.
West Brom were defeated 4-2 by the Imps last Saturday (26 July), and were 2-0 down within the first three minutes.
After the victory over Rayo Vallecano, the Irish international has said that the Baggies squad are still getting used to playing under Mason, and that the loss at Lincoln was unacceptable.
Speak to West Brom’s website (3 August), Molumby said: “We’re getting there. Obviously last week [at Lincoln] wasn’t acceptable from all of us, including myself.
“We don’t want to drop our standards but as the games come closer, I think you’ll find that the mentality changes and we get closer to winning games and properly competing.”

West Brom need to improve quickly
The Baggies are still gelling together under Mason, as can be seen by their results this summer.
But with the season starting next week against Blackburn Rovers, they need to get their form sorted quickly.
Opponent | Result |
Dynamo Kiev (N) | D 1-1 |
Blackpool (A) | L 2-1 |
Lincoln City (A) | L 4-2 |
Rayo Vallecano (H) | W 3-2 |
With an early trip to Wrexham on the cards, who will be up for their first home game in the Championship, the Baggies need to be on form from day one if they aspire to reach the play-offs.
