Angus Gunn to complete transfer ‘with immediate effect’ after West Brom news

West Brom have been heavily linked with a move for former Norwich goalkeeper Angus Gunn.

Ryan Mason has been keen to add Gunn to his goalkeeping department, with the 29-year-old Scotsman on trial with the Baggies over the summer.

Mason hasn’t been impressed with Josh Griffiths and Joe Wildsmith since arriving at West Brom and has been looking to sign a new number one.

However, the Baggies have just been dealt a fresh blow in the race for Gunn.

Gunn set to join Nottingham Forest despite West Brom interest

Griffiths has been ineffective since returning from his loan spell with Bristol Rovers in January.

He returned at a turbulent time for the Baggies, with former West Brom number one Alex Palmer having left The Hawthorns.

Mason now faces uncertainty within his goalkeeping department and had been looking to sign Gunn to alleviate his worries.

However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (4 August), the Manchester City academy graduate is joining Nottingham Forest.

Gunn appears to have turned down the chance to join the Baggies and become their number one in favour of joining the Premier League side.

At 29 years old, it seems a bold choice from Gunn to give up a potential number one spot under Mason when he may not get his dream Premier League appearance in the East Midlands.

West Brom face another transfer blow

The Albion have struggled to make an impact on the transfer window this summer, with countless sides beating them to signings.

Gunn will likely regret not opting for regular first-team football, but for the Baggies, they will be heading back to the drawing board.

Mason must now turn their attention to other targets, and they could look to a familiar face to solve their problems.

Former Baggies keeper Sam Johnstone could be available for transfer this summer, after struggling for gametime at Wolves, and he could be the perfect match for West Brom.
