Supercomputer makes West Brom prediction every supporter will love

West Brom enter the new Championship season as an unknown commodity.

In Ryan Mason, the Baggies have an unproven, youthful manager who has been trying to get his philosophies across so far in pre-season.

Aune Heggebo has joined the Black Country for big money and is also unproven in England, with the striker only plying his trade in his native Norway up until this point in his career.

Despite the number of uncertainties surrounding Albion, it may end up turning into a season to remember for The Hawthorns faithful.

Supercomputer predicts exactly where West Brom will finish

Angus Gunn would be a safer signing, as opposed to some of the players West Brom have recruited from overseas so far this summer.

Gunn, 29, has a wealth of Championship experience from his stints at Stoke and Norwich, but the Baggies look to have missed out on yet another transfer target, with the shot stopper set to join Nottingham Forest.

In addition to the failed moves for the likes of Mikey Moore and David Brooks, Albion supporters have had plenty of reasons to be apprehensive heading into the new season.

Despite all this drama, Opta’s supercomputer has predicted West Brom to finish sixth in Mason’s first season in charge, in what would be a phenomenal achievement.

In addition to this, the data-driven computer also gives the Baggies a 5 per cent chance of winning the Championship outright, and a further 4.4 per cent chance to finish second and secure an automatic promotion position.

Following their relegation from the Premier League in 2021, West Brom have only managed to finish in a top-six spot once in the Championship, and on paper, Mason looks set to change this.

New era under Mason could be a prosperous one

It was always unlikely that the Baggies would be able to attract a manager of the same quality as Carlos Corberan, who left to join Valencia back in December.

However, if Mason can guide the Baggies into the play-offs like the supercomputer suggests, he will ensure the Spaniard becomes a distant memory in B13.

While Mason’s appointment is undoubtedly a gamble, it is arguably one that Shilen Patel and Co. had to make after more experienced managers such as Steve Bruce and Tony Mowbray are both recent examples of managerial flops whilst at West Brom.
