‘Relegate us now’ – West Brom fans wince at terrible Alex Mowatt post
West Brom have endured something of a mixed summer under Ryan Mason so far.
There had been plenty of optimism surrounding the new boss’ arrival, as well as a couple of his early additions to the squad, but a frustrating pre-season has altered the mood somewhat.
West Brom finally secured their win of the summer against Rayo Vallecano last weekend, as they defeated the La Liga giants 3-2 at The Hawthorns thanks to a flurry of late goals.
That victory has helped to reinstill something of a positive feeling in B71 as we head into the opening game of the Championship season.

West Brom fans react to Alex Mowatt celebration
Alex Mowatt had another strong season in West Brom’s midfield last time out, as he continues to revitalise his stint at The Hawthorns following his loan to Middlesbrough in 2022/23.
The 30-year-old notched seven goals in the second tier last term, his best return in a single season since he hit eight for Barnsley back in 2020/21.
He looked to be back to his creative best, which was seen so often during his time with the Tykes, and that will surely have Mason keen to find a place for him in the starting XI again this season.
The Baggies may be slightly lacking in depth in the middle of the park as we head into the final few weeks of the transfer window, and that should see Mowatt become an integral part of the side once again.
Mason’s squad have been in for a media day on Wednesday (6 August) ahead of the new campaign, and West Brom have posted photos of Mowatt doing his own take on Mo Farah’s iconic ‘Mobot’ celebration on their X account.
The post has drawn a light-hearted reaction from the fans, with one supporter jokingly replying: “Relegate us now.”
West Brom need to get off to a good start
West Brom have been handed a relatively easy start to the new Championship campaign, as they go seven games without facing a side that finished above them in the pyramid last term.
Blackburn, Wrexham, Portsmouth and Stoke make up the first month for Mason and Co., and the former Tottenham academy coach has the perfect opportunity to get a few wins under his belt in the early stages.
Victories are the best way to calm the nerves at a football club, and a strong start would go a long way towards easing some of the concerns that have built up among the fanbase over the course of pre-season.
