West Brom want to sign ‘the next Rodri’ as transfer talks held

West Brom are looking to bolster their midfield this summer, and a player likened to Manchester City’s Rodri has been linked.

Ryan Mason will start his Championship campaign with West Brom this Saturday, and he will be fully aware of the need for more reinforcements.

Those are unlikely to arrive before the weekend, but with just under a month left of the transfer window, time is still there to secure the necessary recruits.

While attacking arrivals will be high up on the list of priorities, Mason also wants to add to his midfield, and the Baggies are said to have held talks over a deal for a Premier League midfielder.

Sunderland midfielder could make Championship move this summer

While West Brom may be helping Sunderland with the sale of Torbjorn Heggem, the Black Cats could provide something in return.

Sunderland’s Nectar Triantis has been linked with a move, with concerns emerging as to whether he will be in their plans for the Premier League campaign.

According to Mackem News (7 August), the Baggies have held internal talks over a potential deal, which would see the Australian move to The Hawthorns on loan.

Triantis has been fighting for his place over pre-season, but an exit seems likely, with Portsmouth, Derby and Scottish Premiership side Hibernian also interested.

Triantis would be ideal for West Brom

West Brom lack options when it comes to players who can play the six role, and Triantis showcased his ability in that area throughout his loan spell at Hibernian.

The 22-year-old won the Young Player of the Year award at Easter Road last season and has even been compared to Rodri for the nature of his play style.

On the comparisons, via the Sunderland Echo, he said: “It’s probably one of the best compliments you can get (being called by fans the ‘Aussie Rodri’). So it’s good to hear and I can definitely feel the love.”

His future on Wearside will likely be decided in the next week, as Sunderland gear up for their return to the Premier League.
