Ryan Mason deserves respect of every West Brom fan after what he’s revealed

Ryan Mason got his West Brom tenure off to the perfect start with last weekend’s win over Blackburn Rovers.

Isaac Price scored the only goal in the 1-0 victory against Blackburn to ensure Mason was all smiles come full time.

West Brom follow up that match with a midweek EFL Cup tie against Derby County, with that quick turnaround the nature of the beast in the Championship.

And that is partly why Mason deserves so much respect as he spoke out after the win against Blackburn.

Mason makes family sacrifice for the West Brom cause

Mason was not the first choice among plenty of West Brom fans when he was named as manager earlier in the summer.

However, the win over Blackburn certainly has supporters on his side and Mason will now be hoping to push on in the weeks and months to come.

It is already quite clear, too, that getting West Brom back to the Premier League is all that matters for the ex-Tottenham player and coach.

Mason was seen with his family at The Hawthorns about 45 minutes after the Blackburn match, and he later explained it had been a while since he had seen his kids.

As quoted by The Express & Star, Mason said: “I’m investing everything in it. I had my family, my kids here and I haven’t seen them in weeks.

“I’m so invested in this place, there are so many good people, and the fans did an amazing job to get behind us.

“I’ve not seen my kids in a couple of weeks so it was nice for them to be here and share that with me.”

The fact Mason has presumably stayed close to Albion’s training ground, rather than travelling back and forth his family home, says a lot about his commitment.

West Brom can build momentum with win over Derby

There is no doubt that next weekend’s Championship clash with Wrexham takes priority over Tuesday’s EFL Cup first-round tie against Derby.

Indeed, Mason is set to make mass changes for the visit of Derby.

However, the game must still be taken seriously as it presents a realistic route into the second round, which will only breed confidence.

Momentum is such a massive part of football, and if the Baggies can get two wins under their belt in the first four days of the season, that will set everyone up nicely for the Wrexham clash.
