Shilen Patel shares personal West Brom highlight after who he got to meet at The Hawthorns
Shilen Patel will be happy with the way West Brom kicked off their Championship season.
New manager Ryan Mason picked up his first win when the Baggies defeated Blackburn Rovers on the opening day of the Championship campaign.
Albion were then unfortunate to be knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Derby after being the dominant side throughout the majority of the game, before they were defeated on penalties.
Patel has now taken to social media after meeting a notable West Brom supporter during the opening-day victory against Blackburn.

Patel shares personal highlight after meeting Hannah Hampton
With Torbjorn Heggem seemingly on the verge of joining Bologna, Patel and Co. must remain vigilant in the transfer market for a replacement if he wants Mason to continue overseeing these positive performances.
The Albion chairman took to X on 14 August to share his thoughts after meeting the Lionesses’ goalkeeper Hampton.
Patel described it as a “highlight of the opening weekend” to meet the England international, who is also a West Brom supporter, before going on to say the 24-year-old is “always welcome” to watch games at The Hawthorns when she isn’t busy lifting silverware.
Hampton, who currently plays her club for football for Chelsea, was a pivotal part in England Women’s Euro 2025 triumph as the shot-stopper was the hero in the penalty shootout final against Spain.
- Hampton was initially expected to be the second-choice goalkeeper for the Euros until Mary Earps announced her international retirement on the eve of the tournament.
Patel needs to facilitate more signings if possible
If Mason is to guide West Brom into the playoffs as some have predicted, ensuring some more new faces arrive in the Black Country would go a long way in making this goal more achievable.
With Heggem’s move to Italy now imminent and Kyle Bartley’s recent retirement, centre-back would seem like an obvious position to recruit in before the end of the transfer window.
The Baggies will be hoping to get back to winning ways when they travel to play Wrexham on Saturday.
