Heggem replacement found – Three things we learned in West Brom win vs Wrexham
West Brom beat Wrexham 3-2 away from home to consolidate their promotion ambitions.
The Baggies have started the Championship campaign with a 100 per cent record, beating Blackburn Rovers and the Welsh outfit.
Ryan Mason is hoping to lead West Brom to promotion and secure a return to the Premier League after a five-year absence.
Two goals from Isaac Price and a Jed Wallace strike would make the difference on Saturday, after Lewis O’Brien had equalised on the stroke of half-time and Sam Smith notched a late consolation.
Here is what we learned from the contest.

Campbell is the perfect Heggem replacement
Torbjorn Heggem has left West Brom to join Bologna, but it does not seem to be a problem for Mason and Co.
American international George Campbell stepped in alongside Nat Phillips against the promoted side and hardly put a foot wrong.
The 24-year-old was signed earlier this summer and was forced to come into the first team after Heggem’s departure.
He showed composure and an ability to bring it out from the back that will have impressed Mason, and there were good signs for the future.
He was left exposed by Callum Styles for Wrexham’s first goal, as the left-back was caught pressing too high up the pitch, but other than that, he was solid.

Price will be key for West Brom hopes
The Baggies have to do absolutely everything to keep Isaac Price at the club as the transfer deadline approaches.
The Northern Irishman has notched three goals in two second-tier matches so far and will be the man to drive their promotion campaign, if he sticks around.
- Price joined West Brom in January 2025
- Notched one goal and one assist in 15 matches last season
- Already has three goals in the league in this campaign
If he can maintain his current form, then the 21-year-old will be right in the mix for the Championship Player of the Season award at the end of the season.
One talismanic figure has just left in Heggem, Mason cannot afford to lose another.

Heggebo can be West Brom hero
New striker Aune Heggebo scored his first strike for The Hawthorns outfit in the Carabao Cup clash with Derby on 12 August.
However, he could not add his first Championship goal at the Racecourse Ground, but he was still a handful for the Welshman to deal with.
The Norwegian created two chances, took four touches in the opposition box and made four passes into the final third.
In terms of defensive contributions, he won both tackles that he attempted for a 100 per cent success rate and made three recoveries.
His hold-up and link-up play will be vital for Mason’s side this season, and even if he does not score many, he will help provide constantly for the Baggies.
