West Brom announce deal as EFL to face new financial boost due to Premier League ban

West Brom have started life under Ryan Mason in tremendous fashion after two straight Championship wins.

Mason’s men saw off a valiant Wrexham charge, which got Albion back to winning ways after their Carabao Cup defeat.

The EFL has benefited from increased television coverage this season, with the Baggies’ victory over the Red Dragons broadcast on terrestrial TV.

Now, the West Midlands club and the rest of the EFL could reap further benefit from a ban only placed on Premier League teams.

West Brom to take advantage of Premier League betting ban

West Brom may have Premier League aspirations, but while they are in the Championship, they can reap the rewards of the betting ban to be imposed on top-flight clubs.

Premier League teams will not be allowed to have betting sponsors on the front of shirts from the 2026/27 season, but the rule will not apply within the EFL.

“No, it doesn’t for now. What happens in the future is obviously up for debate,” Dan Plumley exclusively told West Brom News when asked if their new training gear sponsor, PricedUp, would be affected.

“It’s likely we’ll see more pressure in that space in terms of what the Premier League have done, but it is front-of-shirt sponsorship only at the minute, and with this example with West Brom, we’ve seen other clubs do this, and I think other clubs will look to do this.

“You can look to sign those kinds of companies in other ways, and a training wear partner would be one of those.

“So I don’t think it goes away ultimately, and I think the EFL clubs might get some benefit from that, actually, because some of those sponsors might drop down into that league and look at other options.

“But the clubs will look to leverage this in other ways as well and and try and keep some of those deals there, because until there’s a blanket ban across the board, which is unlikely at this stage, then they’ll still look to sign those sponsors in different ways, which is a good example here of of what you’ve seen with West Brom.

“And it’s not a front-of-shirt sponsor, so if that is coming down the track in other leagues, then clubs will look to take advantage while they can.”

What are Albion’s chances of promotion under Ryan Mason?

While making money off the field is positive, the real goal for West Brom will be promotion to the Premier League.

The Baggies missed out on the top six entirely last season, but under Mason, they have taken fledgling steps toward doing so.

Much has been made of the strength of opponents in the Championship, but no team has looked unstoppable so far.

While it is early days, Albion have shown enough about them to be considered genuine contenders.

Of course, there is much work ahead, but on current evidence, the players have bought into Mason’s project.
