Tony Brown can’t believe what Jed Wallace did vs Stoke – ‘Oh my goodness’

West Brom returned to winning ways in the Championship as they overcame Stoke City 1-0 on Saturday.

Nat Phillips’ goal proved to be the difference for West Brom at the BET365 Stadium, with the defender having a stunning match.

Viktor Johansson will no doubt be gutted about his mistake against West Brom, which proved to be the defining point.

However, the Baggies could have easily won by more goals, with Ryan Mason getting his game plan spot on.

Nevertheless, Jed Wallace may come away from the match slightly annoyed with himself.

Tony Brown: Jed Wallace had to score against Stoke City

With West Brom holding onto a narrow 1-0 lead, the Baggies were pushing for a second late in the game to ensure they took home the three points.

Despite Stoke City limiting their chances throughout, Mason’s side had a golden opportunity to make it 2-0 with around 20 minutes to go.

A whipped ball found Wallace, who Mason recently praised, with no one around him.

However, the midfielder would miss the ball completely, allowing the chance to go amiss.

Talking on BBC WM on 30 August, Tony Brown was gobsmacked by the miss.

He said: “Oh my goodness.

“I can’t believe that Steve, it has gone through everybody.

“Jed Wallace at the back stick, he has just got to get a touch to it and put it home, and he has made a mess of it. It was a great opportunity.”

Jed Wallace was solid vs Stoke City

Despite his miss, Wallace did have a good match against Stoke.

The winger created chances and managed to lock down the hosts’ left flank.

According to Fotmob on 30 August, Wallace was good in both defence and attack against the Potters.

On top of this, his experience no doubt helped West Brom to remain organised against a formidable Stoke attack, who had won every Championship game before the match.

Hopefully, the next time Wallace is presented with a golden opportunity to score, he will take it.
