Sunderland star West Brom fans have been crying out for this summer sends message to Chris Mepham
Chris Mepham turned in an excellent display on his debut for West Brom in the 1-0 win over Stoke City.
The Wales international only joined the Baggies on Thursday, but he was named in the starting XI for Saturday’s trip to the Potteries and played a crucial role in his side’s victory.
Mepham and centre-back partner Nat Phillips turned in a pair of commanding performances at the heart of the backline, as the visitors put a stop to Stoke’s perfect start to the new campaign.
Ryan Mason will have been delighted by what he saw from his new acquisition, and it’s not just the boss who appears to be happy to see Mepham doing well.

Romain Mundle reacts to Chris Mepham’s Instagram post
West Brom sealed Mepham’s arrival for an initial fee of just £1million, with a further £500,000 of add-ons to sweeten the deal for Bournemouth.
That already looks like a steal for a player of his quality, and on Saturday, he looked every bit the centre-back that helped Sunderland to claim promotion to the Premier League last term.
The Baggies have ultimately been the beneficiaries of the 27-year-old’s loan stint in 2024/25, given that his future at his parent club has been clear for a lengthy period.
Mepham took to Instagram after helping his teammates to claim their second clean sheet of the season on Saturday, where he posted a message of thanks to the fans who travelled.
“Enjoyable first outing for the Baggies,” the defender wrote.
“Support was incredible, your voices were heard all afternoon. See you all after the break.”
His former Black Cats teammate Romaine Mundle responded to the post by commenting with a heart emoji.
West Brom fans call for Romaine Mundle signing
West Brom could be in for a busy deadline day as they look to add the finishing touches to their squad, and Mundle is a player who the fans have been hoping will be targeted for large parts of the summer.
- @rickyleegriffi – “Bring me Mundle.” (9 July)
- @wbaa_j – “I don’t think Mundle leaves tbh, saw a few of their fans thinking he can pull his weight in the Prem. I’d love him though.” (9 July)
The Baggies faithful were continually calling for the winger to make the switch to B71 earlier in the window on X, but he has since suffered a hamstring injury in pre-season that has required surgery.
The 22-year-old is yet to feature this season, which surely puts paid to any hopes of the Baggies potentially landing him before Monday’s deadline.
However, fans will still be encouraged by Mundle’s message to Mepham on Instagram. The evident friendship between the pair perhaps suggests that a switch to The Hawthorns could appeal to the youngster, should the possibility arise in January.
For now though, the West Brom faithful will be left wondering what could have been.
