West Brom fans hailed for ‘tremendous’ scenes after Stoke City win
West Brom fans will no doubt be riding the high of another Championship victory.
Nat Phillips demolished Stoke City’s perfect start to their Championship season after his goal separated the two sides.
Ryan Mason watched from a distance as he served a one-match touchline ban after he was shown a red card in West Brom’s 1-1 draw with Portsmouth.
The highly-favoured manager will return for their upcoming clash against Derby County. But for now, Albion supporters are happy to bask in the present.

West Brom players greet fans after Stoke City
After West Brom’s win against Stoke, the Baggies remain one of the few teams unbeaten in the Championship.
There were doubts when Mason was first appointed as West Brom manager. The Englishman was jumping from an assistant coach position at Tottenham right into his first managerial position.
But the new head coach seems to have proven many wrong, creating a wonderful atmosphere in the dressing room and on the pitch which has not gone unnoticed among fans.
Baggies fan Chris Hall took to X on 30 August to express his gratitude for the players coming over to applaud the travelling supporters.
He said: “Love this, every single one of them coming over and showing their appreciation to the fans as a group. What an atmosphere today as well. Tremendous support!”
Meanwhile, another fan commented: “Still haven’t got my voice back mate.” Another said: “That’s the longest they’ve stood as a group for as long a i can remember. Makes such a difference when you’ve travelled.”
Jayson Molumby’s jovial spirit was singled out by the fans, one of whom said: “Molumby was buzzing.” Another wrote: “Molumby loving it!”
Bilkul Football WBA, who completed their takeover of West Brom on 28 February 2025, and Mason were also praised for their contributions. One fan said: “Bilkul and Mason have re united the club again.”
How have West Brom fared in the Championship so far?
A deeper delve into the stats reveals that West Brom’s start to the Championship is even better than it seems.
In four games, Albion have scored four goals from open play and two from set pieces and are currently sitting second on the table.
Goals conceded | 0.80 per 90 |
Clean sheets | 2 |
Shots on target | 4.00 per 90 |
Expected goals (xG) | 4.80 per 90 |
Big chances missed | 4 |
The Baggies have conceded just three goals, keeping two clean sheets within that time. Meanwhile, they are eighth among Championship teams for shots on target per match with a 10.9 per cent conversion rate.
Albion are also 16th for big chances missed, recording just four in the Championship so far. This demonstrates that, as well as a huge defensive stronghold at the back, West Brom are effective going forward.
If Mason continues as he is, Albion can expect a full promotion charge this season.
