West Brom eye last-minute swoop as medical booked in ahead of loan deal

West Brom will be looking to strengthen their squad right up until Monday night’s transfer deadline.

Championship clubs have until 7pm BST on 1 September to conclude their summer business, and the Baggies could yet be in the market for a couple of players.

Samuel Iling-Junior is set to join West Brom on a season-long loan deal from Aston Villa, with the youngster having already undergone a medical ahead of the move.

That switch is now imminent, but Ryan Mason’s side have now taken a big step towards completing another piece of business in the loan market.

Charlie Taylor set for West Brom medical

Charlie Taylor is also on West Brom’s radar as we head towards the upcoming cut-off on Monday.

The Southampton defender didn’t feature regularly for the Saints during their relegation from the Premier League last time out, and could now be heading for the exit.

Taylor’s potential move to the Black Country appears to be progressing quickly, and the 31-year-old is now understood to be set to undergo a medical ahead of a switch to The Hawthorns, according to reports from The Express and Star.

The deal to bring the left-back to B71 will be a loan, and Albion are working hard to ensure that it can be sealed in time.

Charlie Taylor signing addresses key priority for West Brom

West Brom’s priority aside from Iling-Junior has been a new left-back, and they now appear to be on the verge of ticking that box with Taylor’s imminent arrival.

The pursuit of Taylor should provide the cover that is needed on the left side of the backline, with Callum Styles currently the only senior option at the club who is capable of filling the left-back role.

It also hints at how Mason and Co. are planning to use Iling-Junior.

The former Juventus starlet is capable of operating almost anywhere on the left flank, but the pursuit of an out-and-out defender now makes it clear that he is being viewed very much as an attacking option.

It may not have been the most dramatic of deadlines for Albion and their fans as of yet, but if they could get a deal for Taylor over the line, then they will certainly have filled the two holes that were present in their squad after the early-season evidence.
