Samuel Iling-Junior pinpoints his four ‘best attributes’ that will excite West Brom fans
West Brom boosted their promotion hopes with the signing of Samuel Iling-Junior.
West Brom welcomed Samuel Iling-Junior on deadline day as one of two loans seen on the occasion.
The other was left-back Charlie Taylor who West Brom have signed from Southampton for the rest of the season.
While the Aston Villa player should only be with Albion for the season, his performances could surprise supporters.

Samuel Iling-Junior names pace as one of his ‘best attributes’
West Brom fans wanted Albion to sign Tom Fellows’ replacement before the end of the summer.
Fellows left West Brom for Southampton earlier this summer after climbing through Albion’s academy ranks.
Iling-Junior is not someone they had in mind for a replacement. But he could be even more useful for the Baggies’ promotional charge.
In his first interview with West Brom on Tuesday, 2 September, he said: “I think this is an important move. I’ve spoken to the manager, and we’re aligned on where we want to be, and that’s really helpful.
“I want to get playing, and I’m really excited to be here. When speaking with Ryan Mason, we spoke a lot about my best attributes, which are dribbling, utilising my pace and creating opportunities for the team and adding a few goals myself. We also spoke about me enjoying myself, so we’ve had positive conversations.”

Iling-Junior brings flexibility to West Brom
As well as there being an element of completeness to his game, Iling-Junior is versatile in his position:
- In 2024/25, he made nine appearances at left-back, scoring two goals and providing one assist
- Iling-Junior played seven games on the right wing, netting twice
- He also spent six games on the left wing and one as a right midfielder
As such, it is understandable why some West Brom fans are sceptical about his ability to replace Fellows. Iling-Junior is only at Albion for the season, and fans would have preferred a permanent signing.
However, his versatility should be enough to see the Baggies through to the end of the season. Then West Brom can consider shopping in the 2026 summer market for a long-term replacement.
Until then, his recruitment is smart. His ability to play in several positions not only means he can fill in the gaps left behind by departures and injuries, but Mason will also be able to test out multiple formations.
Therefore, the left winger could help Albion with their promotion hopes this season.
