West Brom are on the path to promotion as they look to extend their unbeaten streak in the Championship.

There were concerns when Ryan Mason was appointed as West Brom’s head coach, given that it would be his first permanent managerial position since leaving Tottenham.

However, he continues to prove his doubters wrong. While West Brom dropped points against Portsmouth, the Baggies have won the remaining three of their Championship games. West Brom’s most recent win came over Stoke City, where Nat Phillips scored the only goal of the tie.

The Baggies will now look to continue this impressive run of form as they progress through their season.

Championship supercomputer predicts play-offs for West Brom

West Brom will be eyeing promotion after picking up 10 points in the Championship so far, sitting second in the table.

The Championship supercomputer, created by sports analytics company Opta, believes that the play-offs are within reach for Albion.

The supercomputer simulated millions of outcomes based on all the data collected on the second division sides.

It suggested that:

  • West Brom will finish third on the table with approximately 73 points
  • Albion have a 10.06% chance of winning the Championship title
  • The Baggies have a 19.92% chance of Premier League promotion

What is interesting is that despite placing one spot higher on the Championship table, the supercomputer believes that Coventry has a 21.90 per cent chance of promotion, which is higher than the Baggies.

Either way, promotion into the Premier League and even winning the league would be an incredible feat for Albion and Mason during his first season as manager.

Will West Brom’s signings help their promotion hopes?

Albion had a busy summer window, which saw nine new players arrive at The Hawthorns.

Aune Heggebo was West Brom’s most expensive signing, arriving from Brann earlier in the summer. Whereas, West Brom welcomed Samuel Iling-Junior and Charlie Taylor on loan during deadline day.

The main takeaway of the Baggies’ signings is the flexibility which comes with them. Iling-Junior can play as a left-back, but can also operate as a left or right winger and even in midfield.

Meanwhile, Taylor can play as a centre-back, and Krystian Bielik has had shifts in the defensive midfield. As such, for manageable spending, the Baggies have signed players who can play in multiple positions.

This adds another layer to the squad depth Mason already has, which could be the difference between promotion and just missing out.
