West Brom have been grappling with the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) for some time now, as the previous transfer window highlighted.

Tom Fellows left The Hawthorns for Southampton, with the Baggies making £10 million from the sale of academy graduates.

Andrew Nestor used Torbjorn Heggem's departure to invest in the backline, with the Albion using the money from the centre-back's move to Bologna to sign Nath Phillips, Chris Mepham, George Campbell, Krystian Bielik and Alfie Gilchrist.

With more than £25m accrued from sales by the Black Country outfit and £11m invested into the playing squad, their financial footing seems to be going in the right direction.

West Brom comfortable when it comes to PSR

Having sold key players like Fellows and Heggem, the Baggies now find themselves in a much stronger position in terms of PSR, Lewis Cox says.

The Express & Star journalist believes the Albion are no longer skirting the boundaries of the financial regulation after the recent business at The Hawthorns.

Cox is impressed with the way the Black Country club have handled the situation, as it isn't always easy to build a competitive team while being concerned about PSR.

Speaking on the Baggies Broadcast, the journalist said: "Albion are in a much stronger and much sounder footing now when it comes to FFP and PSR, and they're not sailing or skirting close now. I think it takes a lot to do that, to improve the squad, to still rebuild while losing key players and really improve your PSR position."

Shilen Patel to finally end five-year Premier League absence at The Hawthorns

Shilen Patel celebrated The Hawthorns turning 125 on 3 September, and fans will now hope the American owner can lead them back into the Premier League.

Bilkul Football ended Guochuan Lai's turbulent ownership at the Baggies in 2024 and have since made some astute decisions.

Although the Albion suffered a slight setback following Carlos Corberan's exit, and it's widely acknowledged that Tony Mowbray's appointment was unsuccessful, Patel appears to have made the right choice with Ryan Mason.

  • Middlesbrough are two points ahead of the Baggies in the league table.
  • The Albion have scored six goals and conceded three in the Championship.
  • The Black Country outfit lost to Derby County in the Carabao Cup first round.

West Brom are expected to make the Championship play-offs, currently sitting second in the league table after going unbeaten in four matches.

The Baggies have made some astute signings to build the foundations of potential success around the likes of Phillips, Mepham and Aune Heggebo.

With the future looking bright in B71, it will be interesting to see how Mason will fare at the Albion by the end of the season.
