West Brom proudly sit bottom as Kieran Maguire shares new Premier League transfer reveal

West Brom have a clear ambition to secure a return to the Premier League this season.

The Baggies have made an unbeaten start to the new Championship campaign, and the encouraging signs so far this term will have fans dreaming of a potential return to the top flight.

Nat Phillips recently revealed that West Brom’s overarching goal is to win promotion this season, and that will take plenty of hard work as the rigours of the campaign continue to unfold.

Ryan Mason has had a hugely bright start to life in the dugout in B71, and there is certainly a feeling that Albion could be on to something good with his appointment.

West Brom have lowest ever Premier League transfer spend

West Brom have been away from the Premier League for the last four seasons, and haven’t really come close to sealing their return in that time.

The Black Country outfit have had several near misses in the last few seasons, but Mason’s men are providing renewed hope that this could finally be their year.

However, Albion must be mindful of the fact that the top flight has changed drastically since they were last there.

Kieran Maguire has highlighted that by publishing a list which shows that Liverpool’s staggering £416million summer transfer spend only ranks them 11th in the all-time biggest yearly outlays in the Premier League at the moment.

The football finance expert’s list is based on a full accounting year, so the Merseysiders could yet push themselves further up in January.

At the other end of the scale, the Baggies prop up the bottom of the list with their 2013 showing in the transfer market, when they spent just £1m over the course of the year.

The Baggies are better prepared for the Premier League now

Unsurprisingly, the Baggies only narrowly avoided relegation to the second tier in the 2013/14 campaign, after being so passive in the transfer market.

However, they are now in a much better place as a club to compete if they could make it back up to the top table of English football.

West Brom fans were frustrated by Tom Fellows’ departure, but they have shown in recent months that they have saleable assets, and are also capable of finding quality replacements when they do move players on.

Isaac Price is a player who looks destined to net them a huge sum at some point in the next few seasons, and that will only help to enhance Albion’s spending capabilities even further.

They still have plenty of work to do if they are to make it back to the top flight, but there are certainly exciting times ahead in B71.
