Dele Alli possible contract details as West Brom transfer agreement mooted

Dele Alli could potentially make his return to English football with West Brom.

Bookmakers have suggested a reunion between Alli and Ryan Mason, but it remains to be seen whether the Baggies will be able to afford him.

The 29-year-old has had a demanding spell in his career since leaving Tottenham, and now finds himself looking for another club after being released by Como.

Alli may cost £4.5million per year in wages at The Hawthorns, and an unorthodox contract offer has been mooted for the English midfielder at the Black Country club.

West Brom to offer Dele Alli pay-as-you-play contract

Alli and the Baggies may need to come to some sort of arrangement due to his recent struggles, Plumley says.

The football finance expert feels any outlay on the former Tottenham star will be significant at The Hawthorns and could represent a massive risk.

Plumley believes the Albion may be able to mitigate some concerns about the attacking midfielder’s fitness issues with a pay-as-you-play contract.

Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, he said: “I think that would be the logical way to look at it. As you say, there’s a lot of history with the player, and it’s not quite worked out. So if you are going to take that risk, then it would make sense to look at some of those kinds of options — a play-as-you-play type of arrangement.

“And it covers West Brom as well from a risk perspective, and of course, it’s not going to be silly wages, but it’s going to be a significant outlay for that kind of player at that level.

“I think if it’s going to happen, anything like that would be needed. A kind of different arrangement, as you say. More on a play-as-you-pay basis, with things like bonuses for certain amounts of appearances and other things like that to uplift it. But I don’t see West Brom taking a huge financial risk. It just doesn’t fit with how they’ve operated recently.”

Dele Alli record since leaving Tottenham

Alli’s move to The Hawthorns may be on the cards as a free agent if the Baggies look to add more depth to their team in the coming weeks.

West Brom have lost Tom Fellows to Southampton, and the ex-Spurs playmaker could kickstart his career again in B71 after struggling for regular game time at multiple clubs in recent seasons.

In January 2022, the Englishman joined Everton but was sent out on loan to Besiktas after a few months as he failed to live up to expectations at Goodison Park.

Alli didn’t really do much in Turkey either and then started a new chapter at Como in January 2025, but only played 10 minutes before leaving, with his career once again in limbo.

Whether the Albion end up signing the England international remains to be seen.
