Nat Phillips fires warning to West Brom teammates ahead of Derby County clash

Nat Philips has been a key part of West Brom’s excellent start to the season.

Phillips joined West Brom from Liverpool this summer and has already made a positive impression at his new club.

The English defender has played every minute of the Baggies’ campaign so far and has been part of two clean sheets in four games.

Phillips and Chris Mepham have formed a solid partnership at the back for West Brom, who find themselves second in the table.

West Brom face the defender’s former side, Derby County, this weekend, and he had some advice for his current team ahead of the fixture.

Nat Phillips warns West Brom teammates against complacency

West Brom have made an unbeaten start to the season, but Phillips is insistent that his side must not get complacent.

Speaking to the Express and Star, he said: “It’s important not to get complacent. We all know that we need to keep pushing forward, keep going in the direction that we want to.”

He also added that he is hoping the good start to the season can continue: “Obviously, there is an international break now, but we just want to carry on as we’ve started the season with positive performances and positive results.”

Phillips has been clear in West Brom’s goals this season, and has made no secret that they are aiming for the Premier League.

Nat Phillips praises George Campbell

Phillips was also full of praise for his fellow defender George Campbell.

The American played out of position at right-back in the win of Stoke City and greatly impressed, with Phillips gushing about his versatility.

He said: “George playing out of position. I thought he was top, I thought he had a really good battle with their winger and got the better of that match-up.”

Campbell joined West Brom in the summer from CF Montreal and put in an excellent display against the Potters.

The Baggies’ back four as a whole have been very impressive this season, and it is something Ryan Mason will be proud of.

Phillips made 33 appearances for Derby while on loan with the Rams last season, and will be determined to secure all three points.
