Alex Mowatt shares favourite Hawthorns memory ahead of ‘special’ West Brom vs Derby clash

West Brom’s upcoming game against Derby County is gearing up to become one to remember, with Alex Mowatt set to play his part.

Mowatt recently signed a new contract at West Brom after arriving at Albion in the summer of 2021.

The midfielder has since made 133 appearances for the Baggies, scoring 13 goals and providing nine assists.

His importance at West Brom has not dwindled since Ryan Mason took over as head coach, having started in all competitive matches thus far.

With another important game on the horizon, Mowatt has reflected on his time at The Hawthorns.

West Brom celebrates 125 years at The Hawthorns

West Brom will celebrate 125 years at The Hawthorns when they take on Derby County in the Championship.

It seems like a full circle moment, given that Derby were the first team West Brom welcomed when the stadium first opened.

In light of the joyous occasion, Mowatt has revealed to West Brom‘s official website on Thursday that the 2024 semi-final play-off against Southampton is his favourite memory at The Hawthorns.

West Brom went on to lose the play-off round against Southampton

He said: “It’ll be a proud moment for all the lads to be involved in such a special day for the club.

“It’s going to be an exciting one, the atmosphere is going to be great and we just want to make it a game to remember and play a small part in a big bit of history of this football club.

“The main thing, as always, is to go out there and produce our best to try and gain a positive result on what will be such a special day and we want to give the fans something to celebrate.

“There’s been many great nights and it’s a special stadium.

“For me, the best is probably the play-off game against Southampton. When the coach was driving in, the atmosphere around the place, when coming out for the game, was a special one for me, and that’s the best I’ve seen the atmosphere since I’ve been here.”

Ryan Mason has a difficult task ahead

While most fans at The Hawthorns will be in a celebratory mood, there will still be a game to be fought and won.

Albion have had a strong start to the season. West Brom dominated Blackburn Rovers during their Championship opener to win all three points.

Meanwhile, wins over Wrexham and Stoke City have given the Baggies an extra boost. Despite dropping points against Portsmouth, West Brom remain unbeaten in the league.

However, their previous meetings against the Rams have been far from an easy ride.

As such, all eyes will be on Mason to break the cycle when West Brom welcomes Derby once again.

His work will be cut out for him. But if the last four games reveal anything, it’s not to underestimate Mason this season.
