West Brom vs Derby halted due to bizarre reason as 125 years of The Hawthorns celebrated

West Brom’s celebration at The Hawthorns was unforgettable for more reasons than one.

Ryan Mason suffered his first Championship defeat against Derby County on Saturday, 13 September.

The Albion manager was on a sensational run, having picked up 10 points in four games before the international break. Despite West Brom’s draw to Portsmouth, there was the feeling the Baggies could go far this season.

But Derby was tough as always, with an unlikely occurrence making it that bit more difficult for West Brom.

West Brom game halts for a pigeon

West Brom celebrated 125 years at The Hawthorns with another winless games against Derby.

Their first game at the stadium over a century ago game against the Rams, but ended in a draw. Given their previous unbeaten streak, the Baggies most likely would’ve been happy to mirror that result.

The defeat was no doubt disappointing for the Baggies. However, the most exciting moment of the game came when the action was halted.

Deep into the second half, a dead pigeon dropped onto the field, which resulted in the game stopping. The Hawthorns has been home to a peregrine falcon for some time, and there will no doubt be speculation on whether it was the same bird.

Nevertheless, fans watched the bizarre moment unfold in amazement as it took a couple of minutes for the bird to be removed and play to resume.

Aune Heggebo problem emerges at West Brom

Mikey Johnston shone for West Brom despite the disappointing defeat. He was everywhere for the Baggies and was their biggest hope before he was substituted minutes before the full-time whistle.

While Aune Heggebo put on another solid defensive display. The striker struggled the exert himself in the attack.

Heggebo signed for West Brom in the summer. As such, there is leeway when it comes to him not scoring. But in games like these, where his team are searching for his goal, fans will expect their striker to find the back of the net.

Therefore, there seems to be a Heggebo problem in the making at Albion that needs solving.
