Andreas Weimann takes three-word swipe at West Brom after match-winning Derby goal

West Brom suffered their first Championship defeat against Derby County on Saturday after Andreas Weimann’s late winner.

The Hawthorns hosted John Eustace’s team on 13 September, and an 84th-minute goal from the Austria international broke the hearts of the home fans.

Aune Heggebo should’ve done better for Ryan Mason as the Baggies were dominant and created a few chances in the 1-0 loss.

The Rams have now gotten the better of the Albion twice already this season, also winning the Carabao Cup first-round tie in August.

Andreas Weimann delighted after goal vs West Brom

Weimann, 34, established himself as a hero for the away supporters, arguably snatching victory against the Baggies.

A dangerous cross played into the box found the attacking-midfielder, and the Albion’s defenders were unable to close him down quickly enough at The Hawthorns.

After multiple touches inside the box, the Austrian national set himself up and beat Josh Griffiths in between the sticks.

Weimann subsequently took to Instagram on 14 September, posting a collage of pictures of his goal in B71 with the caption, “That felt good”.

Ryan Mason will expect more from team against Middlesbrough

Weimann had five of the nine touches in the opposition box at The Hawthorns in the build-up to his goal, which highlights that Derby weren’t at their best.

The Baggies dominated most of the proceedings, creating one big chance and even hitting the woodwork on occasion.

It is safe to say that the Albion should’ve scored at least one goal against the Rams, but they have now slipped down the league table to fifth.

Mason may need to trust Josh Maja more at West Brom in the upcoming matches, as it’s evident that the current attacking setup needs to be tweaked.

Thankfully, Middlesbrough dropped points against Preston North End on 13 September, leaving them only three points ahead of the Baggies.

The Black Country club have a tough test coming up against Rob Edwards’ team, and their character will be tested at the Riverside Stadium on 19 September.

With improvements needed in the final third, it will be interesting to see how the Albion will line up in their next matches.
