West Brom face ‘disappointment’ as Premier League promotion claim emerges
Ryan Mason endured his first Championship loss as a West Brom manager against Derby County on Saturday.
John Eustace’s team travelled to The Hawthorns on 13 September, ending the Baggies’ unbeaten start to the league season with a 1-0 victory.
Andreas Weimann’s 84th-minute goal was enough for Derby to secure the three points in B71, leaving Ryan Mason frustrated.
This is just the first setback the Albion have faced in what will undoubtedly be a long and gruelling campaign in the West Midlands, with Premier League promotion the coveted prize.

Tom Fellows transfer will not affect West Brom promotion chances
Tom Fellows’ move to Southampton was a bitter blow for the Baggies last summer, Lee Hendrie says.
The Sky Sports pundit believes the England Under-21 international’s departure should have an effect on the promotion aspirations at The Hawthorns.
While the Albion will be disappointed to lose someone of the 22-year-old’s quality, other players in the squad are certainly making up for it under Mason.
Speaking to Football League World on 15 September, Hendrie said: “It’s how they step up from losing players like Fellows, because he’s a good player. He’s talented, and unfortunately, they’re without his services now. It will be a disappointment to the football club.
“I’m not sure whether it will affect their promotion push this season. But as I said, you want to keep your best players to give yourselves the chance of that actually happening.”

Isaac Price fills Tom Fellows void at The Hawthorns
Isaac Price made history for Northern Ireland recently, becoming the youngest player to score 10 goals for the Green and White Army.
The 21-year-old has admirably filled the void left by Fellows at the Black Country club, scoring three goals and providing an assist in the Championship so far.
What the West Midlands outfit lacked against Derby wasn’t creativity, but the end product in front of goal.
- The Baggies signed Price for £2.5million in January 2025.
- The 21-year-old’s contract at The Hawthorns runs until 2029.
- The young midfielder has started in every game for the Albion this season.
West Brom should be frustrated with losing to Derby at home due to their performance in the fixture, dominating the proceedings for most of the match.
The Rams had just one shot on target and scored from it, while the Albion created multiple opportunities and looked threatening on several occasions.
Mason may need to come up with a slightly different game plan if the Baggies hope to bounce back against Middlesbrough on 19 September at the Riverside Stadium.
