Everything Rob Edwards has said about West Brom ahead of Middlesbrough showdown
Middlesbrough manager Rob Edwards certainly knows a thing or two about West Brom.
Ryan Mason’s team are set to travel to the Riverside Stadium on 19 September in the Championship as they look to bounce back.
Derby County won 1-0 at The Hawthorns on 13 September, handing the Baggies their first league defeat this season under their new manager.
The Albion have now fallen to fifth and will be looking to get the three points off the table-toppers, with the former Luton Town manager’s record against them not the best.

West Brom have made Rob Edwards suffer in the past
Edwards hasn’t managed to beat West Brom in his managerial career, drawing twice and losing once.
The last time the Welsh manager faced the Baggies was at Kenilworth Road on 14 January 2023, when he was still Luton Town manager, as the visitors managed to come back from two goals down to win 3-2.
Now, the 42-year-old head coach will be hoping to finally get the better of the Albion in North Yorkshire as Boro look to extend their lead at the top of the table.
- Mason has won three league games at the Baggies.
- Derby also beat the Albion in the Carabao Cup this season.
- The Black Country outfit are three points behind Boro.
Speaking before the game between the Black Country outfit and Luton, Edwards said: “West Brom in the Championship are a very big fish and usually if they’re in this league, they’re used to competing at the top end of it.”
After the 3-2 loss, the Welshman was disappointed, saying, “Obviously, bitterly disappointed to lose the game. I’ll start with where credit is due, West Brom are a really good team and well done to them.
“The shape of their team when they had the ball was difficult to press at times, and we had to try and change it a little bit in that first half, which we did, and we were okay. Ultimately, it was the manner of the goals, the way we conceded the goals was the disappointing thing.”

Ryan Mason will look to change Middlesbrough record
Mason is expected to challenge for promotion at The Hawthorns, but that will require consistency from the Baggies, which wasn’t seen under Tony Mowbray in the previous campaign.
West Brom will hope to get back into the Premier League after a five-year absence under the English manager, and a win over Middlesbrough will undoubtedly be huge for them.
Boro have won their last three games against the Albion, winning home and away last season, which is something Mason will look to change at the Riverside Stadium.
In the last 10 meetings between the two, the Black Country outfit have won just three matches and lost five times, but with two different managers in charge now, it will be interesting to see what will happen in North Yorkshire on Friday.
