Ex-West Brom manager lined up for ‘shock’ Premier League job amid sack news

West Brom fans will be dreaming of the Premier League once again after a bright start to the new season.

Ryan Mason’s men have made an excellent start to the 2025/26 campaign and are handily placed in the early-season table, even though their unbeaten start was halted by Derby County last time out.

West Brom have been away from the Premier League for the last five seasons, but they could put themselves in a position to challenge for the promised land once again if they can sustain their strong start.

The top flight has become a totally different beast since the last time Albion were there in 2020/21, but they could now be about to see the return of a familiar face to the top table of English football.

Ex-West Brom boss Slaven Bilic could be in line for West Ham job

Slaven Bilic delivered promotion during his time at West Brom, as he lifted them to the top flight via a second-placed finish in the Championship in 2019/20.

The Croatian boss was well thought of amongst the fans, and his dismissal after a draw with Manchester City in December 2020 was widely regarded to be a harsh one at the time.

The 57-year-old also previously impressed during a stint in charge of West Ham, who he led to a seventh-placed finish in 2015/16, their highest final league position since the 2001/02 campaign.

Bilic could now be in line for a ‘shock’ return to the Hammers, as he is a contender to take over from Graham Potter, according to talkSPORT.

The Englishman is facing a battle to save his job in the coming weeks, and it is understood that Bilic is among those who are being considered as potential replacements by the board.

Nuno Espirito Santo and Sean Dyche are also thought to have been discussed by the powers that be in E20.

Slaven Bilic has unfinished business in the Premier League

Bilic oversaw a poor start at West Brom following their promotion to the top flight, as his team won just one of their opening 13 league games.

However, he will surely feel that he still has unfinished business in the Premier League, given the way that he unceremoniously lost his job.

He led Albion to a 1-1 draw away at Manchester City in his final game before getting the boot, despite the fact that it was arguably their best result of the campaign at that stage.

Bilic will likely feel that he would have been able to prevent the eventual relegation that was suffered at The Hawthorns.

With that in mind, he would surely jump at the chance to get back into Premier League management, even if it meant stepping into a difficult situation at the London Stadium.
