Ryan Mason shares update on Daryl Dike and four others as West Brom ace undergoes surgery
Ryan Mason has had to navigate the Championship fixture list this season without several important players.
Derby County’s win over West Brom put an end to the Baggies’ unbeaten streak in the Championship this season.
There is no doubt that Mason will be looking to get back on track when West Brom take on Middlesbrough on Friday.
But he may need more than the players at his disposal to get the job done and revive West Brom’s Premier League promotion hopes.

Daryl Dike close to West Brom return
Daryl Dike has been sidelined for West Brom since suffering a thigh injury ahead of Albion’s opening Championship win over Blackburn Rovers in August.
The centre-forward was anticipated to return for the Baggies in September, but it may take a little longer before he takes to the pitch.
Ahead of Albion’s clash against Middlesbrough, Mason provided an update via the West Brom official website on 18 September.
The trio of Karlan Grant, Tammer Bany and Dike remain sidelined while new signing Krystian Bielik has been training with the senior team.
Young West Brom defender Alex Williams sustained an ankle injury while with the Wales Under-21s team, meanwhile, and will be out for “a period of time” after undergoing surgery.
Mason said: “Krystian started training with us this week. That’s really positive, and it will be good to have him back in the squad after a period of time out.
“We’re assessing Karlan Grant daily. Tammer Bany and Daryl Dike are still injured, but they’re a little bit closer to returning to training. They’re not with the group yet, but Karlan will probably be out a little longer.
“Unfortunately, Alex picked up quite a bad injury while he was away with Wales’ Under-21s. He had to have surgery on his ankle, and he’ll be out for a period of time.”
How many games has Daryl Dike missed since signing for West Brom?
Despite arriving at the Baggies in 2021, Dike has made just 43 appearances in all competitions due to various injuries. The centre-forward has netted nine goals and provided two assists within that time.
He has suffered two major injuries since transferring to West Brom, including back-to-back Achilles tendon injuries, which resulted in surgery during the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons.
- Dike has missed more than 120 games for club and country since signing for West Brom
- That is almost 800 days out of action
The Baggies have been suffering in the goalscoring department since the start of the season, with centre-forward Aune Heggebo yet to net his first Championship goal for Albion.
As such, there is no doubt that Mason will be pleased once he returns to the fold and will be even happier if he remains fit.
