Three rarely-seen players who can help Ryan Mason after West Brom loss vs Middlesbrough

Ryan Mason is going through a tough period as West Brom lost to Middlesbrough in the Championship on Friday.

Rob Edwards’ team were victorious at the Riverside Stadium on 19 September as the Baggies suffered their second consecutive league defeat.

The Albion have dropped down to seventh in the league table after their recent disappointments, and the English manager should look to make changes in the upcoming fixtures.

Mason is aiming for Premier League promotion at The Hawthorns, and West Brom News look at three rarely-seen players who can help him get back to winning ways.

Josh Maja has to start over Aune Heggebo in West Brom vs Leicester City

Josh Maja should be the first name on the teamsheet for the Baggies as Leicester City travel to B71 on 26 September.

The Nigeria international has been a bit-part player for the Albion this season after returning from a lengthy layoff, but it’s high time that Mason starts to rely on him at The Hawthorns.

Aune Heggebo got his first Championship goal for the Black Country outfit against Boro, and while he has shown glimpses of his talent this season, the centre-forward hasn’t been clinical enough.

In the previous campaign, Maja, 26, demonstrated his ability to lead the West Midlands club to promotion with his goalscoring abilities, but the striker’s fitness issues were a significant setback.

Alfie Gilchrist should replace George Campbell at right-back

Alfie Gilchrist could potentially be a leader at The Hawthorns, as the Baggies look to get back into the Premier League, with the 21-year-old captaining Chelsea’s youth team.

The defender’s addition was sensible from the Albion as they lost key players like Torbjorn Heggem and Darnell Furlong from their backline last summer.

Surprisingly, the Englishman hasn’t played a minute under Mason yet, and that needs to change soon.

While George Campbell is a solid defender, the USA international can’t provide much quality in the final third of the pitch from right-back, which is now more important than ever after Tom Fellows’ exit.

Charlie Taylor to bring Premier League experience to The Hawthorns

Charlie Taylor can help unlock Callum Styles’ attacking potential at West Brom, with the Hungary international being played out of position.

The 32-year-old left-back has joined the Baggies on loan from Southampton and brings a wealth of Premier League experience to The Hawthorns, but hasn’t played for them yet.

While Styles has been a key player for Mason this season, the English manager may be better off playing him further up the pitch.

The Albion are lacking the cutting edge in the final third, and Taylor should come into the starting lineup, with the ex-Barnsley ace moving into the middle of the park.
