Toby Collyer loan to be ‘cancelled in January’ amid ‘bizarre’ West Brom development

West Brom worked hard to add Toby Collyer to their ranks during the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old featured six times for Manchester United in the Premier League last term, and the Red Devils opted to entrust the Baggies with the next stage of his development.

Collyer was an eye-catching signing for West Brom, given that he had previously received glowing praise from Bruno Fernandes, but things haven’t played out well for him so far.

The midfielder has found it difficult to impress Ryan Mason so far, and Albion could be about to pay the price for their boss’ stance on the starlet.

West Brom fans fume as Toby Collyer left out vs Leicester City

Collyer looked bright for West Brom when he came on in the defeat to Middlesbrough last weekend, and several in the Baggies fanbase were hoping that he would have forced his way into Mason’s reckoning with the display.

The youngster showcased his bravery on the ball, and pushed to make things happen for Albion in the second half on Teesside, despite their ultimately being no way back into the game for them.

Many people were expecting that he would be thrown in for his start in the Friday night clash with Leicester City, but Collyer has been left to try and impact the game from the bench once again.

That has prompted an outcry from the West Brom fanbase on social media, with several supporters taking to X to express their frustration at Mason’s decision.

One fan even suggested that Collyer’s loan is likely to be “cancelled in January,” given the lack of football that he is receiving in B71.

Man United will regret their decision to send Toby Collyer to Albion

Mason has emphasised that Collyer is in his plans for the season, which makes his continued decision to overlook the midfielder even more surprising.

Ultimately, United will not want to provide a young talent with the upheaval of a cancelled loan move to then send him somewhere else, but they will surely consider that if things don’t improve for him.

They would undoubtedly have plenty of potential suitors in the summer for such a bright talent, and they will likely be wishing that they sent him elsewhere, as a result of Mason’s lack of faith in him so far.

The Albion boss has ample faith in Alex Mowatt and Jayson Molumby in the middle of the park, but he needs to think carefully about the potential consequences of Collyer’s continued snub.
