Samuel Iling-Junior reveals secret he’s kept from Ryan Mason since joining West Brom
Samuel Iling-Junior joined West Brom on loan from local rivals Aston Villa this summer.
Iling-Junior has had a mixed start for West Brom, starring in some games but going missing in others for the Baggies.
Ryan Mason has not yet shown that he fully trusts the young left winger, who has made four appearances in the Championship.
He has shown a willingness to play in several positions so far in his career, including the right wing in his time in the West Midlands, which should help his case at The Hawthorns.

Samuel Iling-Junior reveals what he has kept from Ryan Mason at West Brom
Iling-Junior has given West Brom a new attacking dimension from the flank, and he will hope to keep his place in the team going forward.
However, the 22-year-old revealed that he has been keeping the fact that he supports Arsenal away from Mason, due to the boss’ affiliations with Tottenham, their North London rivals.
Speaking to the BBC on 10 October, he said: “I just like playing football, as long as I can perform in any position, I am happy.
“I would say I’m more of a traditional winger on the left. It’s also about developing – I can play on the right – being comfortable on the left or right, being a part of the team.
“I’m from Highbury, an Arsenal boy, I’m not telling Ryan Mason that, he won’t play me.”
Mason will not care about Iling-Junior’s reveal
Mason will ultimately not care about the reveal from the youngster, it will be form that keeps him in the team, rather than the team that he supports.
Obviously, there will likely be banter between the pair given the fact that the Albion boss is heavily linked with Spurs, but it should not affect his plans for the team.
- Iling-Junior has not made a senior appearance for the Villans yet, since signing for them in 2024
- He has spent time at Middlesbrough and Bologna on loan
- He moved to the Baggies on deadline day in a temporary switch
If Iling-Junior is performing, he will play, if not, then he will not, it will not come down to the fact that he supports Arsenal.
Mason has his team in seventh place in the division, and they are targeting a return to Premier League after years in the second-tier wilderness.
He needs his charges to step up and make sure that they can at least secure a playoff spot at the end of the season and if the Villa loanee can thrive, then he will be a key asset in that ambition.
