Wales media in agreement over Chris Mepham performance in 3-0 defeat vs England

Chris Mepham has become an important feature of Wales’ national team in recent years.

West Brom signed Mepham from Bournemouth in the hope that his experience would help Albion gain Premier League promotion.

Despite the Baggies’ season having taken a turn for the worse in recent weeks, Mepham has been one of West Brom’s better summer signings.

While the international break was seen as a period of respite from the demanding league schedule, the defender will likely be counting the days until the Championship resumes.

Chris Mepham one of the best out of a bad bunch vs England

Mepham came on for captain Ben Davies in Wales’ 3-0 defeat to England on Thursday.

Wales were dominated for most of the contest at Wembley Stadium, but his side underwent a moment of calm when he was substituted on which is reflected in the ratings.

His solid defensive effort while on the pitch and diving header, which forced a respectable save from Jordan Pickford, saw him rated a five by Welsh outlet Y Clwb Pel-Droed.

Meanwhile, Wales Online described his intervention as “not a bad cameo” and awarded him a six rating while also pointing out his headed effort.

BBC Wales also went with a 6/10 and also pointed out the headed chance: “Defended solidly and forced Pickford into an excellent save with a diving header.”

Despite the disappointing defeat, with a big UEFA World Cup qualifying game against Belgium on 13 October, Mason will be hoping Mepham comes back in one piece.

How has Chris Mepham performed for West Brom thus far?

Mepham has been a solid signing for the Baggies so far, if his performances in the Championship are anything to go by.

He is one of the only Albion defenders not to have committed an error leading to a shot or goal in the league thus far, according to Sofascore.

Meanwhile, he has recorded 6.5 clearances per game and has been dribbled past 0.2 times per 90, which is 0.5 less than Nat Phillips.

In duels, he has performed just above average and has won 57 per cent of his total duels and has yet to concede a penalty in the league.

Therefore, there is no doubt room for improvement, but Mepham has become a strong force in Albion’s backline.
