Everything the Irish media has said about West Brom’s Jayson Molumby vs Portugal

Ryan Mason has a busy period of fixtures for West Brom coming up, and can put things right after a disappointing few weeks.

West Brom and Mason will be looking for better results after the international break.

Mason came under fire after the 3-0 defeat to Millwall last time out, as fans raged on social media.

Karlan Grant could soon return for West Brom, adding extra firepower to Mason’s frontline.

One player Mason will certainly not want to lose is Jayson Molumby, who has been playing for the Republic of Ireland during the international break.

West Brom’s Jayson Molumby hailed for Ireland performance vs Portugal

Baggies midfielder Molumby was previously left out of Ireland’s national team selection during the last international break.

Molumby is highly rated at West Brom, as the midfielder earned his call-up this time, playing the full 90 in Ireland’s late defeat to Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal on Saturday.

The Irish media were full of praise for Albion’s man.

“The best showing by any Irish midfielder this campaign, and has solidified his place in the side. Passed well and won his duels,” as quoted by Sports Joe.ie, giving him a 7/10.

RTE Ireland also gave him a 7/10 and said: “While the Waterford man says his technical ability does not receive enough recognition, his main attributes have tended to centre on energy and work-rate, assets that would suit the task at hand.

Finally, The Irish Times also gave him a respectable seven and said: “The Waterford man had the confidence to take on a right-footed shot from outside the box midway through the first half.

He was constantly popping up to get involved and drew fouls from Fernandes and Silva in the second, for which both players were booked.”

Molumby is key for West Brom and Ryan Mason

It’s fitting that all three Irish outlets gave Molumby a seven rating, as that’s what the Black Country Club also seem to get week in, week out from the midfielder.

This is Molumby’s fifth season at The Hawthorns, and each season he seems to get better and better.

If West Brom are to achieve anything this season, Molumby is sure to be at the heart of it for Mason, as he’s already started all nine Championship games this campaign.

Ireland plays Armenia on Tuesday, and Mason will be praying Molumby isn’t given another 90 minutes for his country, but after his solid performance, that now looks likely.
