West Brom have worrying Chris Mepham omen to overcome ahead of Preston clash
Chris Mepham has been a regular for West Brom this season.
After nine games, West Brom sit seventh in the Championship, having started the season in quite a familiar fashion.
Albion started very brightly under Ryan Mason, but one win from their last five has exposed a few weaknesses in the squad that will need to be addressed in the coming weeks.
However, a clash against Preston is up next for West Brom, who may take some concern from Mepham’s previous encounters against them.

Chris Mepham has never won a game vs Preston
Mepham has been excellent for West Brom this season, just as he was for Sunderland last year in the Championship.
His experience and leadership qualities have been clear from day one, and his ability on the pitch certainly matches what he offers off of it.
However, with that experience comes several games against Preston, and they are one of only two current Championship sides that the Welshman has faced off against and failed to beat.
- Sunderland 1-1 Preston – Mepham played 90 minutes
- Preston 0-0 Sunderland – Mepham played 90 minutes
- Bournemouth 1-2 Preston – Mepham played 62 minutes
- Bournemouth 2-3 Preston – Mepham played 90 minutes
In the four times he has played against Preston, he has been on the losing side on two occasions, while drawing the remaining games.

Of course, his most recent two were with Sunderland, when they were held to a 1-1 draw in the latter stages of the season, and could only settle for a point in a goalless draw at Deepdale.

West Brom state of play ahead of Preston clash
While West Brom have an omen to overcome with Mepham, they have a more positive one in the form of Josh Maja.
Maja scored twice for West Brom in their most recent victory against Preston, and could be given the nod for Albion this weekend.
As for other squad inclusions, Mason has no new injury concerns, with Charlie Taylor potentially set to feature in the team to some capacity after missing the Millwall defeat through injury.
With that said, Daryl Dike, Tammer Bany and Karlan Grant will all miss out with injuries.
