BBC pundit baffled by ‘crazy’ Isaac Price situation away from West Brom

Isaac Price once again played a full part for Northern Ireland as they were beaten 1-0 by Germany on Monday night.

West Brom favourite Price caught the eye for Northern Ireland but ultimately could not prevent his side from falling to defeat.

Price also earned praise for his display against Slovakia last week, which Northern Ireland prevailed 2-0 in at Windsor Park.

However, Norn Iron boss Michael O’Neill did not always play to the versatile attacker’s strengths in Monday’s loss to Germany.

John O’Neill questions defending for Nick Woltemade winner

Newcastle United striker Nick Woltemade scored what proved to be the only goal of the game in Belfast with 31 minutes played.

Woltemade profited from some sloppy defending to head in for Germany, much to the bemusement of former Northern Ireland player John O’Neill.

Speaking live on BBC Radio Ulster, O’Neill said: “We had Price picking up Woltemade. I don’t understand that.

“It should have been Dan Ballard or Trai Hume. That is crazy. Woltemade gets a run on Price and it was an easy goal. It is a soft goal to give away after a good 30 minutes.”

Price played all 180 minutes for Northern Ireland across their two October qualifiers.

How did Isaac Price perform for Northern Ireland vs Germany?

The 22-year-old was certainly his all-action self as his two shots were a joint-high for Northern Ireland, level with Ethan Galbraith, albeit neither of those were on target.

Price, who is the youngest player to score 10 goals for Northern Ireland, also registered a team-high two key passes.

The 40 touches Price recorded, meanwhile, was bettered only by Ballard (48) among the home team’s players.

Price may have gone off the boil for West Brom, but hopefully these impressive displays for his country will provide him with some momentum heading into Albion’s next batch of fixtures.

The will certainly be the hope for Ryan Mason, who sees his West Brom side host Preston North End at The Hawthorns on Saturday.
