West Brom plot revenge on Preston after New Year’s Day clash provided fireworks
West Brom are set to take on Preston on Saturday, in a clash that previously produced plenty of controversy.
Ryan Mason will be desperate to get the Baggies back to winning ways after West Brom were humiliated 3-0 against Millwall before the international break.
With Preston up next, West Brom are the favourites to come out on top at The Hawthorns.
However, the visitors are a formidable opponent and will actually start Saturday higher than the Baggies, with Preston currently sitting fourth in the table.
Yet, West Brom may be able to look at past events to give them extra motivation to get a result.

West Brom’s clash with Preston last season was full of controversy
In the last meeting between the two sides, West Brom beat Preston 3-1 on New Year’s Day. However, this clash was not without its controversy.
There was an argument that Stefan Thordarson should have been sent off for Preston after a high challenge on Jayson Molumby only resulted in a yellow card.
- Preston are set to travel to The Hawthorns on Saturday
- The Lilywhites start the day two points ahead of West Brom with a better goal difference
- The Baggies beat Preston in their last meeting 3-1
West Brom weren’t innocent either, with Kyle Bartley being blasted for shoving Emil Riis over the advertising boards, an incident that went without punishment.
However, given the hostilities between the two sides last time, and the potential injury that could have been inflicted on Molumby, the Baggies are no doubt looking to get revenge.
A victory could derail Preston’s early promotion ambitions and would establish the Baggies back in the playoffs.
While Mason was not in the dugout in the last meeting, he will no doubt be looking to use the players’ hostile attitudes to his advantage when the visitors come knocking.
West Brom’s head-to-head record with Preston
West Brom actually have an excellent recent record against Preston.
In their last five meetings, the Baggies have won four, with the other match being a draw.
Now, Mason will be looking to continue this trend at The Hawthorns on Saturday.
If not, the Baggies could quickly find themselves cut adrift from the playoff spots.
