Alex Mowatt claim put to bed directly by Ryan Mason at West Brom
Alex Mowatt continues to go from strength to strength for West Brom.
West Brom beat Preston 2-1 to get back in the win column on Saturday, and are now preparing for a mid-week showdown against Watford at Vicarage Road.
Ryan Mason has been criticised for his team selections this season, as Mowatt returned to his side against Preston, after being strangely left out in West Brom‘s 3-0 loss to Millwall before the break.
Mowatt has faced fitness issues while at The Hawthorns, and his absence against Millwall further raised concerns over whether the midfielder could stay fit in a push for promotion.
Mason has moved quickly to respond to any Mowatt worries.

Ryan Mason believes Alex Mowatt can stay fit for a full season
Mowatt is no doubt integral to West Brom, and it was seen once more with his assist against Preston.
The win helped the Baggies climb back up the Championship table, and another three points against Watford could put the Albion up to third.
- Mowatt has played 10 Championship games so far this season
- He averages a Sofascore rating of 6.97
- Mowatt registered nine goal contributions for Albion last campaign
Mason was quizzed on whether he has concerns over Mowatt’s ability to see out a full Championship season, and playing in a three-game week consistently.
“No, absolutely not,” he said, via the Express & Star in a sharp response.

The question has most likely been asked, as Mowatt’s fitness is commonly mentioned within Albion’s fanbase.
What West Brom fans have previously said about Mowatt’s fitness
Most West Brom fans love Mowatt and know that he is the key player in this Albion side that just makes things work.
However, the midfielder hasn’t been able to hide away from his fitness issues, and Baggies fans have previously voiced their frustrations.
West Brom fans on X about Alex Mowatt’s fatigue:
- @SicknessWitness – “Pace and the three game weeks hit him hard”
- @le_lebouf76 – “With all the sports science available these days, they will know exactly where Mowatt is at in terms of fatigue”
- @Fozza11_ – “Our most important midfielder- problem is that there’s no one else that can really step in and do his role. So he has to play more or less every league game, which inevitably leads to fatigue”
There are still 36 more games to play this season, and Mowatt realistically needs to feature in most of them.
With the busy winter period coming up, Mason needs to hope his comment doesn’t backfire on him, as Mowatt may need to be wrapped in cotton wool.
