West Brom fans want cult hero back at The Hawthorns as he opens up on shameful exit

West Brom fans have continued to back their team in impressive fashion in the early stages of the 2025-26 season.

The Baggies have made a bright start to the new Championship campaign, and are already well on their way to establishing another typically impressive home record.

West Brom beat Preston 2-1 at The Hawthorns last weekend, as they notched their second win of the league campaign on home turf.

Supporters have generally been content with the start that their team have made, although they have since expressed their frustration at the way the Baggies hierarchy treated one of their former heroes.

West Brom fans want to see Youssouf Mulumbu return

Youssouf Mulumbu has sparked debate at West Brom in recent days, following a post that he made on his X account in which he criticised his former manager Tony Pulis and ex-Albion sporting director Richard Garlick.

The former midfielder expressed his frustration at the fact that a tribute to him at The Hawthorns has since been covered up by a pillar, and he has now expanded on his claims regarding Pulis and Garlick.

The Frenchman wrote via a post on his X account that Garlick had previously “swore to him” that he would never name Pulis as manager because “it did not correspond to the philosophy of the club.”

Mulumbu followed that up by pointing out the unceremonious way that he departed the club. He wrote: “On top of that, for everything I did for the club, I never had the chance to say goodbye to the supporters who have always been behind me in good times and bad.”

Albion fans have since flooded in with message of support for the 38-year-old, with many keen to see the B71 outfit welcome him back to a game this season in order to say goodbye properly.

One supporter wrote: “You’ll always be loved at the Albion,” while another added: “You’d be welcomed back by all fans Youssouf.”

Youssouf Mulumbu is a hero at The Hawthorns

Mulumbu is one of West Brom’s best ever deadline day signings, considering that he arrived at the club in a last-minute deal and went on to make over 200 appearances.

The former PSG academy graduate was a crucial part of some impressive Baggies sides, who were often extremely competitive in the Premier League at the time.

Mulumbu won plaudits for his energy and ball-winning ability and was the type of player who fans find it hard not to love, considering the level of effort that he put into every 90 minutes.

It is understandable that he still feels aggrieved by the manner of his departure, and it would warm the hearts of many in B71 if Albion could welcome him as a guest in the near future.
