West Brom player ratings vs Ipswich Town – 2/10 incompetent, Samuel Iling-Junior stands out

Samuel Iling-Junior looked like the only attacker who was bothered as West Brom lost 1-0 against Ipswich Town in the Championship on Saturday.

Ryan Mason’s team travelled to Portman Road on 25 October, having lost just one of their previous seven ties against a recently relegated team.

Watford got the better of the Baggies at the Vicarage Road on 22 October, giving the English manager a lot to think about for the trip to Suffolk.

The Albion had an impressive start to the season, but their recent inconsistency has led to a drop in the standings, and Jack Clarke’s 83rd-minute strike was another blow for Mason.

Samuel Iling-Junior only threat for Ryan Mason vs Ipswich Town

Samuel Iling-Junior has been influential for West Brom this season, putting in some impressive performances under Mason.

The attacker has kept his place in the starting lineup in recent matches and justified his inclusion at Portman Road, being the only attacking threat for the Baggies.

It looked like the Iling-Junior, 22, was the only Albion player capable of taking Ipswich’s defenders on, creating a few opportunities with his dribbling abilities.

Special mention must be given to George Campbell, who kept the threatening Jaden Philogene at bay for most of the game.

Ousmane Diakite incompetence on show in West Brom loss vs Ipswich Town

Ousmane Diakite has put in some awful performances for West Brom this season, and he was once again woeful at Portman Road.

The 25-year-old was defensively sound against Ipswich but wasteful on the ball, giving the ball away multiple times.

With the Malian midfielder in the midfield, the Baggies didn’t have the best of outlets to connect the defence with the attack.

Diakite looked amateurish in his display, and it was clear that the Albion were missing Jayson Molumby in the game, and things will certainly need to change at Sheffield Wednesday at The Hawthorns on 1 November.
