Man United fans shocked by what Ruben Amorim has now said about Toby Collyer – ‘PR Disaster’, ‘Stop lying’

Ruben Amorim unexpectedly namedropped Toby Collyer in his post-match press conference after Manchester United beat Brighton on Saturday.

Man United loan manager and ex-West Brom defender Jonny Evans signed off on Collyer moving to The Hawthorns in a season-long deal in August.

Collyer became the 1,000th player to play for West Brom when he made his debut against Wrexham a few days after arriving but he’s currently sidelined with an injury.

Ryan Mason confirmed last week that Collyer has a hamstring issue, ruling him out of their defeats to Watford and Ipswich.

It remains to be seen when the 21-year-old will be available again, but in the meantime, he’s been on the mind – and lips – of Man United manager Amorim.

Ruben Amorim: Toby Collyer was ahead of Casemiro in Man United pecking order

Amorim was raving about Casemiro’s performance in the 4-2 win over Brighton when he mentioned Collyer’s name.

According to the Man United manager, Casemiro was behind Collyer in the midfield pecking order at Old Trafford when he first arrived at the Premier League giants.

“In the beginning, he was behind every midfielder – even Toby [Collyer]. But he fought and he worked, and now he’s back in the [Brazil] national team,” said Amorim.

“The other guys need to look at Casemiro and understand that football can change really fast.

Man United fans seem a bit confused by Amorim’s comments, with one X user @sydneybakasi, saying “stop lying” after seeing what the Red Devils boss said about Collyer and Casemiro.

England Under-20 international Collyer made 11 first-team appearances across all competitions for Manchester United last season, including an FA Cup penalty shoot-out victory over Arsenal and the Community Shield defeat to Manchester City.

How’s Toby Collyer getting on at West Brom?

It’s been quite hard for West Brom fans to form an opinion about Collyer since he moved to The Hawthorns on loan in the summer.

He’s played nine times in the Championship for Mason‘s side. However, only two of those appearances have been from the starting line-up.

In his last start, he managed to assist Mikey Johnston‘s goal in the 2-1 win over Preston before he was substituted off with his latest hamstring injury in the 55th minute.

According to stats by Sofascore, Collyer has only averaged 25 minutes per game for the Albion and has an average match rating of 6.64, ranking him 11th in the squad.

West Brom’s top rated players on Sofascore in the Championship this season:

Collyer has completed 91 per cent of his passes when he has played, and averaged 22.3 touches per appearance.

He’s also won 1.3 ball recoveries per game, winning 52 per cent of duels he’s competed in.
