Grzegorz Krychowiak sends two-word message to West Brom as announcement made

West Brom alumni Grzegorz Krychowiak has announced his decision to retire from football.

Krychowiak arrived at West Brom in the 2017-18 season, but his spell with the Baggies was a forgettable one, and he was part of the team that were relegated.

The Hawthorns outfit eventually returned to the Premier League after securing promotion in the 2019-20 campaign, but Krychowiak was long gone by then.

The 100-cap Polish international also spent time with Reims, Sevilla, Lokomotiv Moscow and several other clubs in his career.

Grzegorz Krychowiak sends West Brom message after retirement announcement

Krychowiak’s stint with West Brom was miserable for all involved, but it seems that he is still fond of his spell with the Baggies.

He took to Instagram to announce the news on 27 October, before making another post with a message sent to his former club.

He sent a two-word message, simply saying “thank you” and tagging Albion.

Krychowiak’s stint at West Brom sums up their recent financial issues

Krychowiak’s time in the Black Country is summed up by the holiday pictures that he posted on Instagram, rather than anything he did on the pitch.

The Poland international spent the 2017–2018 season on loan in the West Midlands from Paris Saint-Germain, and his arrival had supporters dreaming of European qualification.

He was on a reported £110,000-a-week in B71, but he did absolutely nothing to justify those wages, in his 31 appearances for the club.

The out-of-control spending that Guochuan Lai oversaw as Baggies owner have put the club in a precarious situation, which has hindered Shilen Patel and Co. since they took over the club.

Former club CEO Mark Jenkins told the official website that he was shocked by the state of Albion when he returned in 2018.

He said: “I’ll be honest, I’ve come back and I’m shocked at what I have found in some of the decisions that have been made.”

The Throstles were relegated that season, finishing bottom in the top-flight, and signing Krychowiak and others on such huge wages definitely played a part.
